Surf Pool
The Surf Pool is Typhoon Lagoon’s signature attraction. It is also the central icon in the park. It is billed as the world’s largest inland surf facility. Every ninety seconds a new wave, ranging up to six feet in height, is released from the back end of the pool. The wave works its way toward the beaches, eventually trickling into a small moat separating the beach from the pool. The back end of the pool is roped off, as the farthest anyone may go is roughly three-fourths of the way back. The beach area is enormous and almost completely encircles the pool.
There are four small “bays” to the pool, with one, Blustery Bay on the left side, being designed for small children. There are a couple of important warnings that must go with this pool. First, the wave packs tremendous power. Even if you are at the back of the pool, it can and will potentially knock you over. Be prepared. We strongly discourage sitting through a wave in shallow water. Further into the pool, you will be knocked backwards, or forwards. Make sure there is some space between you and others in order to avoid a closer than preferred experience.
Three times a week the park offers a surfing class at 6:30 a.m. The cost is $140 and this does not include park admission. If interested, make sure to call ahead to schedule your session.
