Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom is the third of the Magic Kingdom’s three mountains. To that point it is often considered lesser than the other two and perhaps with reason. It is merely a wild, and quite jerky, ride up, down, and all around Big Thunder Mountain. There are no major drops, like in Splash Mountain, and everything is in the light of day, unlike in Space Mountain. Even so, most roller coaster enthusiasts really enjoy this attraction. The theme of a runaway mine is much more interesting than the normal coaster, and you really feel like you are moving all over a real mountain. You enter into an abandoned mine. The height requirement is 40 inches and there is a general health warning, so those who aren’t sure probably shouldn’t do this one. As we mentioned, there are no big drops and no inversions, so it a a relatively tame coaster. But it can still shake you up quite a bit. Big Thunder Mountain is located in the back left corner of the Magic Kingdom, just down from Splash Mountain and overlooking the river used by the Liberty Square Riverboat. On especially busy days the wait here can reach around one and a half hours, so visit early, late, or use FASTPASS.
