Studio Backlot Tour
The Studio Backlot Tour in Streets of America at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is a truly unique attraction that takes you through a wide variety of movie-maiking places and shows you numerous movie memorabilia items. It is located behind the Studio Catering Company and the Stage 1 Company Store. You enter the main building and go up the incline to the line. The first part of the attraction is a 12 minute show where you stand and watch from viewing lines. Four guests are chosen to participate. They are usually chosen while waiting in the line before you enter. Note – it is great fun to get chosen, but you will get wet. The show demonstrates how movies make battle scenes and wave scenes, using a replica boat, and pools. It is quite interesting. From there you board the trams, which will take you on the rest of the tour. The trams take you past movie artifacts and old movie props. There is a guide who explains what you are seeing. Many items will likely be recognizable to you. About halfway through the tram ride, you enter Catastrophe Canyon, where you will see (and feel) a demonstration of explosions, and earthquake, and a flood. Note – those on the left side of the tram have the best chance of getting wet. After Catastrophe Canyon, you wind through some movie sets and some more movie memorabilia. The tour ends by letting you walk through the American Film Institute and The Showcase Shop. We really like the tour and despite Catastrophe Canyon, it is a nice and relaxing attraction. This is an attraction that tends to be fun for all ages.
