Great Movie Ride
The Great Movie Ride on Hollywood Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is the original centerpiece attraction at the park. It is located inside a replica of Mann’s Chinese Theater, located behind Mickey’s Sorcerers Hat. You enter the building and proceed through a large room. At the far end of the room is a large video screen playing movie classics. Once you get to the end of that room, you enter the loading area. There are two cars in each tram. Each car has six rows, which seat roughly five persons per row. The guide sits on the front left of the front car. This is a slow, smooth ride. You ride through a variety of themed rooms. Each room focuses on different movie classics. These include Indiana Jones, Mary Poppins, Tarzan, Fantasia, The Wizard of Oz, and Alien. There are replicas of Hollywood stars, including Gene Kelly, James Cagney, Clint Eastwood, and John Wayne. At one point your tram is taken over by Mugsy, who guides you on part of the tour. He meets his demise in the Indiana Jones room, and your guide returns. During the theatrics, there are some loud gun shots which can be scary to young children. The Alien scene involves the alien descending from above. This also can be scary to some. For those who love movies, this is a fun ride down memory lane.
