Spaceship Earth
Spaceship Earth contains a ride, sponsored by Siemens, that takes you from the beginning of history to the present and beyond. The theme of the ride is communications history and the future of communications. Upon entering Spaceship Earth, you enter the boarding area, where a moving platform takes you to the vehicles. You sit down, two bench seats per vehicle unit, and begin your journey. Immediately you will begin to lean backward in your vehicles and climb multiple stories on the slow-moving track. After reaching somewhat of a plateau, you begin to see scenes from ancient history, including Greece and Rome. You slowly move through the annals of history, seeing Michaelangelo, Monks from the middle ages, and many more scenes. You eventually end up in the 1900s and today. The ride then takes you into the future, where you see a beautiful space panorama. This is actually the inside of the top of the sphere. The vehicles then rotate to the side until you are going backwards. You partially lie down and descend the multiple stories to the bottom of Spaceship Earth. During the descent, you are asked to choose a method of return, and you will see you will see yourself in the computer screens in a variety of futuristic situations. Spaceship Earth is a very slow-moving, benign ride that isn’t scary or hard on those with health issues. The only issue is that it is mostly in the dark, and some young children might be frightened by that.
