Soarin’

Soarin’ is one of three super headliner attractions at Walt Disney World. Until Toy Story Mania opened in 2008 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Soarin’ held the position of most popular, and crowded Walt Disney World attraction. Even now, Soarin’ rivals Toy Story Mania for that spot. This means that if you want to make sure you can ride Soarin’, either ride it first thing in the morning or get FASTPASSES early in the morning for later in the day. Quite often the FASTPASSES are gone by noon. Soarin’ was first introduced at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim, California. It was so popular that Disney decided to bring it to Florida, and the Land pavilion at Epcot was chosen as the location. Since it’s arrival, it has been a favorite of virtually everything who rides it. Upon entering Soarin’, you are led through a long series of lines. Once you reach the loading area, you are briefed on the upcoming adventure. You enter the main room and take you seat of one of the hangliders. The rows of seats then lift off the ground and move forward until you are directly in front of a massive screen, with nothing but air under your feet. There are multiple hanglider rows watching each presentation. The screen starts as dark and then opens up to the clouds above California. You are then taken on a journey over the state of California. Sights include San Francisco, rivers, mountains, Yosemite, golf courses, Los Angeles, San Diego, cliffs, and much more. Your ride ends with fireworks over Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland in Anaheim. The seats rock gently to give you a feeling of actually flying. If you allow yourself to get into it and not worry about the fact that there’s nothing below you, this may be the highlight of your vacation. It is a beautiful visual journey through California. Those scared of heights should be careful here, although we encourage everyone to try it. Young children cannot ride is they aren’t tall enough. If they are tall enough, they will likely enjoy it immensely.
