Transportation
There are four primary methods of transportation at Walt Disney World. They are: (1) cars, (2) buses, (3) boats, and (4) monorails.
Cars may be driven throughout the Walt Disney World complex, and there are parking lots at every park, destination, and resort. There is also a nice system of roadways that can take you anywhere you need to go within the complex.
Buses are the main Disney method of transportation guests around the complex. Buses run between every park, destination, and resort, from a couple of hours before the theme parks open until a couple of hours after everything closes. The main bus hub is at Downtown Disney, near the Marketplace. Buses can sometimes take quite a while to get from one place to another, depending on how many stops you make in between, but they are very convenient if you don’t have a car or don’t want to mess with driving your car.
Boats are only in three specific areas of the resort. You can take boats along Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area. You can take boats along Crescent Lake in the Epcot Resort Area, and this also can take you to Hollywood Studios. And you can take boats along Village Lake and the rivers in the Downtown Disney area.
Monorails primarily run around the Magic Kingdom Resort Area, with one line that runs along World Drive to the entrance of Epcot. This is a fun way to be transported and can give some great views of the Walt Disney World property, including the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Of course, many are familiar with the concept that the monorail actually runs through the middle of the Contemporary Resort. If you have young children, ask an attendant before you get on the monorail if they can ride with the driver. On each monorail trip a group is allowed to sit in the front cabin with the driver. This can be a lot of fun for children, and probably for adults too.
